Olympic Torch Relay in Historic Asolo - by Elina Phiri, Full-time MBA Assistant
January 21st marked a truly special day for the Full-time MBA students, who took a short break from their management class for a very special trip, to witness the Olympic Torch Relay pass through Asolo. Management Professor Daniel Newton and his wife also joined the party, along with Dr. Al Ringleb and Cristina Turchet, who shared fascinating insights about Asolo and some of its history.
The atmosphere in town was full of excitement as the crowd gathered to watch the torch arrive. For me and other students, it was our first time seeing the Olympic flame being lit. We captured photos and videos of the moment, sharing in the joy and unity that the Olympic Torch represents. It was a lively, inspiring event that brought people together from many backgrounds to celebrate a global tradition.
Watching the Olympic Torch Relay also turned out to be a practical demonstration of a lesson on teams that Professor Daniel had been teaching that very afternoon. Much like the relay, where coordination, shared effort, and trust are essential, the experience showed students how successful teams are built and sustained through collaboration and shared purpose.
While enjoying the experience, the students had a pleasant surprise when they met CIMBA alumnus Pierce McCully, who took time to share with them some tips about travel in Italy and Europe, life after CIMBA in terms of careers, and how to make the most of their CIMBA experience. His friendly interaction reminded everyone of the value of the CIMBA community and how it continues to support students well beyond graduation.
Asolo holds a special place in CIMBA’s history. It was the location of the first CIMBA MBA campus before the program moved to its current home in Paderno del Grappa. Visiting the town allowed students to connect with the program’s roots and appreciate its journey of growth and development. Even standing near the fountain in the main square was a meaningful reminder of CIMBA’s connection to Asolo and its continuing tradition of leadership and learning.
Overall, the trip was a perfect mix of education, culture, and fun, giving the students a real-world lesson in teamwork and leadership while celebrating a historic and inspiring global event.
