LEAP to New Heights!

Consistent throughout CIMBA is a focus on the underlying neuroscience of leadership. Understanding how the brain works enables every person to make informed choices regarding his or her own thinking and actions. Benefits gained from the training are unique to each participant based upon his or her individual goals. The experience contributes to a greater knowledge of self and others and increased self-confidence and motivation.

The LEAP (Learn, Enrich, Achieve and Perform) program is designed to help students improve their leadership skills and enhance their personal growth and development while abroad.  Students choosing to complete this program will put extra effort forward in personal and professional skill development.  Through leadership development, coaching, career development and cultural experiences, students will become more confident, prepared and marketable.  Because of their specialized training and experiences, LEAP students’ resumes will be published in a resume book distributed to CIMBA’s and Kepner-Tregoe's client companies that offer internships and jobs. Below are brief descriptions of the activities in the LEAP program.  For a detailed description, please download The LEAP handout.

LIFE Seminar
LEAP students will begin their leadership development experience at CIMBA in an intense, 2.5 day interactive training that provides the opportunity to practice and enhance key leadership competencies including effective communication, decision-making, teamwork, focus, and interpersonal skills. After this experiential seminar, students will begin working with a trained leadership coach to assist in achieving the goals each student sets in LIFE. The LIFE program is mandatory for students who join the LEAP leadership development program. Students who do not join LEAP will have additional opportunities throughout the semester to participate in the LIFE seminar.

One-on-One and Group Coaching Sessions
LEAP students will participate in both small group and one-on-one coaching sessions with trained leadership development coaches.  During individual coaching sessions, coaches will assist students in setting and achieving attainable and inspiring goals, building on the goals they set for themselves in LIFE.  Coaches will help students develop an action plan to implement their personal career strategy.  Working with a coach helps students reach their full potential both personally and professionally. During the group coaching sessions students will learn and practice the art of giving and receiving feedback which is an invaluable tool to have for the workplace.

KT Certificate Workshops
Students will further hone their problem-solving and decision-making skills through extra Kepner-Tregoe workshops.  These additional sessions take the skills learned in the CAP to the next level.  Students that complete the additional KT training will receive a certificate from Kepner-Tregoe confirming their knowledge and ability to use KT’s consulting method.  Along with the process knowledge gained, this certificate is a terrific addition for a resume.

Career-Development Skills
In preparation for obtaining a potential job or internship, students will go through a series of workshops designed to help them polish their job hunting skills.  Students will learn nuances of cover letter and resume writing.  Opportunities to perfect these documents with feedback will be provided.  Students will also have the opportunity to participate in mock interviews.  These sessions provide feedback to students to help them hone their interviewing skills.  Additionally, students will participate the “Careers In…” lecture series offered every semester.  Professionals in various fields talk to interested students about career opportunities in different professions and how they can use their degree.

Aggiungi un Posto a Tavola
LEAP students also have the opportunity to participate in Aggiungi un Posto a Tavola.  Translated it means “add a seat to the table.”  Students will be partnered with local Italian families and spend an evening with them learning about Italian culture first hand.
