Contacting a Student in Italy

San Marco Cathedral in Venice
There are several ways that you will be able to keep in touch with loved ones while they are away.

Email
Students will have regular access to the campus computer lab to check email and upload their travel pictures to share with those back home.

Skype
It is possible to make calls from one computer to another at no cost using a program called Skype.  In order to do this, both the caller and the receiver must have the Skype software, which can be downloaded for free from www.skype.com.  As long as both sides of the connection are relatively fast, there will be little lag and distortion.  Additionally, students may pay by the minute to call from a computer to a regular telephone line.  The rate varies depending on where you are calling, but most of the industrialized world (including the US and Italy) is on the Global Rate, which is currently 1.7 eurocents per minute.  In order to use Skype, a headset with microphone is required.  These may be purchased in the U.S. at major retail stores or at select stores in Italy.

Phones
Pay phones are available both on campus and in town to make calls.  For our students on the longer (semester) programs, we provide the opportunity for them to purchase mobile phones. You are also welcome to call the campus number directly. When dialing Italy from the U.S., you must first dial 011. Please remember that Italy is 7 hours ahead of the Central Time Zone in the United States.  Those numbers are:

Paderno del Grappa Campus (undergraduate program)
Phone: 39-0423-932160
Fax: 39-0423-932126
Cell (for emergencies ONLY): 39-3357-851-270

Asolo Campus (graduate program)
Phone: 39-0423-951090
Fax: 39-0423-951104
Cell (for emergencies ONLY): 39-335-647-5070

Mail & Packages
Students also enjoy receiving care packages from home. If you wish to send something to Italy, we suggest that you use airmail which will take about 10 days to arrive as opposed to ground mail which can take from 8 to 10 weeks. When filling out the required customs declaration form, it is important that you clearly mark: FOR PERSONAL USE ONLY, NO COMMERCIAL VALUE, NOT FOR RESALE. Otherwise the recipient will have to pay steep taxes in order to receive the package. Make sure not to send any packages within two weeks of the program ending date to ensure that the student will receive the package. More specific information about mailing packages is found in our Travel & Living Guide.

Packages should be mailed to the following addresses:
