Federal Aid and Scholarships
Most students will be able to use financial aid and scholarships for study abroad programs. Federal law allows government money such as grants and loans to be used for study abroad purposes. The process at each university differs slightly so it is important for students to begin the process early and learn the requirements of their home institutions.
Study abroad students must apply for financial aid through their home institutions. Check with universities to determine the procedure for applying for aid for study abroad programs. The Consortium office works with universities to help arrange the process and we can provide a budget of estimated costs if they require one. They will usually accept the budget that is provided to you in the expenses section of the website. Students must notify the Consortium office if they will be receiving financial aid; this is particularly important if you wish to delay payments until your financial aid is received.
CIMBA Financial Awards
Every summer, CIMBA makes available a limited number of financial awards to help needy and/or exceptionally qualified students offset the cost of the program. Students are encouraged to work through their home institutions to secure additional funding. In some situations, the Consortium will try to match scholarship amounts provided by home institutions. The awards are for Summer Session II Only. Applications are due March 1st.
