Passport Information

Printable Page

Every student (and any accompanying family members) participating in CIMBA will be required to obtain a passport. Students must check with the appropriate government agency in their country of citizenship for passport requirements. Non-US citizens should verify the validity of their passport and research the process for obtaining a passport from their country of citizenship.

US Citizens

U.S. citizens will require a passport for travel outside of the U.S. Be sure to apply early because the normal processing time is four to six weeks and sometimes longer. If you have never had a passport, you may apply in person to a passport agent at a U.S. Department of State agency or through selected post offices or clerks of any federal, state or county courthouse. If you have a passport already but it will expire any time up to six months after the program ends, you must renew it before departure.

Documents Required for Obtaining a U.S. Passport:

  • Proof of U.S. citizenship (an official birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or previous U.S. passport
  • Two recent identical color 2”x2” photographs with a white background (passport photos can be taken at most Kinko’s, Walmart, or other photo processing locations)
  • Form of current identification with your signature and photograph (i.e. driver’s license)
  • Social Security Number
  • Passport and Execution Fees
Be sure to make several copies of your passport. Leave one copy at home with your family and carry a copy abroad with you. Store the copy apart from where you store your actual passport so as not to lose both at the same time. If you should lose your passport, the copies may speed up the process of replacing it. If this happens, notify the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate immediately.

You can get more information about passport applications and current fees online at http://travel.state.gov/passport/index.html or by calling the National Passport Information Center at (900) 255-5674.
