CIMBA graduation day at KU |
Philosophy Over the years, a distinct educational philosophy evolved at the Consortium. The philosophy is based on the premise that technical competence and professional skills are only the first phase in the education of tomorrow’s leaders. Consequently, the program offerings go beyond the traditional classroom content. Seminars in European culture, international relations and etiquette are integral components of Consortium programs. Likewise, a variety of guest speakers provide students with the opportunity to meet and talk with today’s leaders. Students have the opportunity to participate in cooking classes, art tours, musical events, presentations on international business and language courses are strongly encouraged. Tours of local companies also are a valuable feature of every program. Additionally, included in CIMBA’s philosophy is the idea that effective thinking leads to effective problem solving. This ideal has lead to the Mind Based Performance (MBP) model.
A key component of the program’s philosophy is the dedication to an environment that minimizes separation between instructor and student. Professors share in the experience of everyday student life where continual learning is encouraged and enhanced.
Basic Beliefs CIMBA’s most prominent characteristic -- its competitive advantage -- is the learning environment. CIMBA has long believed that true learning involves more than memorizing content. Because of the small size, the large number of schools providing high quality professors and the focus on teaching, CIMBA is uniquely suited to expand the learning environment to include small-group cooperative learning and experiential techniques that encourage self discovery. In this environment, high importance is placed on understanding the thinking process, in resolving problems, in efficient decision making and in personal responsibility to one’s success and that of others.
