Clothing (Students attending shorter programs should pack on the lowest end of the range suggested):
- Two to four pairs of pants;
- One formal outfit (nice slacks or skirt; a tie would be appropriate for men);
- Seven to 10 shirts;
- Beach attire, if planning on visiting the beach;
- One to two pairs of comfortable walking shoes;
- One pair of dress shoes (Keep in mind that cobblestone streets are hard to walk on in stiletto heals!);
- One rainproof jacket;
- One skirt (for women visiting churches);
- One to three long-sleeved shirts or cardigans for layering.
Toiletries (Remember, it’s easy to purchase most of these abroad.)
- Body soap;
- Shampoo and conditioner;
- Dental care items;
- Brush/comb;
- First-aid kit;
- Nail clippers/file/tweezers;
- Prescription drugs;
- Spare glasses and contact lenses, and/or prescription for replacement;
- Feminine hygiene products.
Other Essentials
- Alarm clock and batteries;
- Transformers and adapters for electrical items brought from the U.S.;
- Italian phrasebook;
- Travel guide;
- School supplies (calculator, pens, etc.);
- Folding umbrella;
- Clothesline;
- Sewing kit;
- Camera and film.
Items That May be Useful
- Portable CD or MP3 player;
- Small towel (some student hotels and hostels don’t supply towels);
- Hostel sheet and pillow case;
- Earplugs;
- Tube for bringing home pictures or posters.
