This check list is provided to help students keep their planning on track. It’s a guide and by no means is exhaustive. Some things on the list, such as securing visas, are time sensitive and it’s important to pay attention more closely to those time suggestions. Several aspects of the check list are linked to sections that provide more detail.
Five Months before Departure:
Obtain a passport;
Get a visa application (if applicable);
Ensure adequate health insurance coverage for length of time abroad;
Begin searching for an airline ticket;
Buy travel and Italian phrase books;
Check out Web sites and do cultural research.
Three to Four Months before Departure:
Submit visa application (if applicable);
Obtain an international student identification card;
Think about travel determine arrival and departure locations, estimated budget, etc.;
Purchase airline ticket.;
Finalize financial aid process at home institution;
Meet with an advisor to determine what classes to take while abroad;
Complete required forms due to the Consortium Office (must login);
Check out Web sites and practice Italian.
Two Months before Departure:
Obtain PIN numbers for credit and ATM cards;
Set up on-line banking;
Obtain a European train schedule;
Decide on the best method for calling home and make arrangements;
Invest in a travel backpack or other travel gear.
One Month before Departure:
Finalize arrangements for bill payments;.
Purchase a rail pass if planning to do so before departure;
Start packing and testing the weight of bags.
