One of the unique features of our program is the on-site staff that we employ. In the Staff section of the website you have the opportunity to meet them and learn more about them as people. In this section, we will discuss some of the program benefits that come along with having a permanent staff. The staff is fully prepared to provide a wide variety of services including academic counseling, personal support and serving in emergency situations.

24-Hour Emergency Contact
Upon their arrival, students receive a card to carry at all times. The card lists several phone numbers that students can call 24 hours a day in case of an emergency. In addition, the staff encourages students to provide those numbers to their families in the event it is necessary for family to make contact with a student after normal working hours or on the weekends. (Parents can also call the Consortium Office in the US in case of an emergency.) Longer program students are allowed to purchase a cellular telephone in which outgoing calls are paid for through a pre-paid chip. Incoming calls are not charged to the cellular telephone minutes. We have found that these phones can be very useful for students in a variety of situations.

General Advice and Counseling
Both the US and Italy CIMBA staffs work hard to provide students with fundamental academic services. This counseling includes everything from tips on resumes, writing letters of recommendation to working with a student’s home institution to ensure proper credit. Once in Italy students will interact routinely with our campus-life staff who strive to provide all of the extras that are part of a university experience.

Personal Support
CIMBA understands that the culture shock of new and unfamiliar surroundings coupled with the academic demands of our programs can be daunting for some students. Years of experience have taught the CIMBA staff to recognize signs of culture shock and assist students through this transition period. Students are encouraged to talk with staff members about personal issues. In more severe cases, CIMBA can assist a student with arrangements for professional counseling.

Health Issues & Emergencies
Students are encouraged to follow good health and safety practices. This includes taking care of things such as dentist appointments and physicals before heading abroad. However, the need for some type of medical care arises every semester. Medical care in Italy is very good. On the Paderno del Grappa campus, there is a nurse present everyday. Students are encouraged to see her for minor problems such as colds and the flu. Additionally, there are nearby doctors that students can see in the event this is necessary. The CIMBA staff assists in making these appointments as well as accompanying students if the students prefer to have a friendly translator with them. In emergency situations, the CIMBA staff has done everything from hand-holding at the hospital, talking with doctors and talking with parents to flying to another city to visit a student that was injured. Our primary goal is the students well being and we hope that through our nurturing environment, we help ease any stressful situations that arise.
